I made my worst live poker mistake to date last night at Trump.

The scenario: a loose-aggressive 3/6 limit hold'em table. I'm down a buy-in and working on getting back to even. My monster hands to this point have been cracked off, including AA, KK, QQ, JJ, pocket nines (with a set on the flop), and a case of straight-over-straight. It's been brutal but the table is a breeding ground for juicy, swelling pots and a comeback is imminent if I can just avoid getting sucked out on.

I look down to see pocket tens in middle position, and for some reason get the sense that this is my hand. I raise it up preflop. A handful of callers. The flop comes J-6-6. It checks around to me, and I bet. All but two players fold. I'm in middle position of the 3. The turn comes a Queen. Rainbow board. First to act checks to me. My other opponent is squirming in his seat; he doesn't like the board. I bet out. Squirmy nearly folds, but reluctantly calls. I put him on a draw. First to act folds. We're heads-up. The river brings a glorious 10. I've hit my set. I bet out, and Squirmy sits up straight as a board and raises me. I thought to myself, "Fuck! This guy has A-K for the straight. Son of a bitch!" I reluctantly call. He shows his nut straight. I muck my cards, face down.

Have you discovered my error yet?

I'll wait. Oh - I don't have to wait. You aren't morons like I am.

Yes, I mucked the full house, and didn't realize it until the dealer swept the board away with my cards.

Let it go.... just let it go....

Sorry Shelly, that really sucks! Better to get it out of your system now thought instead of in Vegas. How many days before you're there?

we've ALL made that mistake, I've made it in NO with a $300 pot. After that, I turn my cards face up when I put someone all in so I don't miss anything - and it's saved me from losing several other big pots because I was a moron.

Always take a couple second before you muck a big pot like that.

    Ouch.

On the bright side, using Sklansky logic, that's not even that bad a mistake, though, seeing as you made it once and likely will never make it again. 'Tis a much worse and unprofitable mistake to consistently cold-call preflop with KQo, as you'll lose much more money in the long run since that situation arises much more frequently.

Ouch. I'm sorry!! I know that sucks. But yes, it only has to happen to you once before you get in the habit of being 100% sure before you muck. I've mucked the winning straight before, at the Bellagio. Learned my lesson!

I did something similar once. Playing B&M NL. I was UTG with QQ. I flop a set and slow play. By the end there is a four flush out there. I have the Q in my hand. I bet on the end and one guy mucks and the other calls. I thought they both mucked so I mucked. He shows a 7 high flush.

Damn! Sorry about that. I mucked the nuts once on the river in a PLO game. Never again.

I'm not able to make it out to Trump tonight after all...damn.. Somethings come up that is unavoidable......next Friday night I'm there for sure barring major tragedy.....If you're not there yet I'm guessing you will be before long....good luck...love the live action at Trump!

LMAO! That is funny.. unless it happens to you, then it is sad.. lol. Nice! I think it was one of those nights where everything went wrong, so why win a hand, right? You will get it back.
